Michael V. Scanlon retired from the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) in 2022 after 39-years of research and development in the areas of acoustic sensors and sensor-processing.

  • Throughout his career as an Army Subject Matter Expert in Acoustics, he influenced international R&D in Battlefield Acoustics through his Chairmanship of NATO’s SET-233 research group on “Acoustic Transient Threat Detection Sensors & Signal Processing for Battlefield Situational Awareness.”
  • Holds approximately 15 patents.
  • Received his Bachelors of Science in Engineering Science & Mechanics in 1986 from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (VA Tech), and Masters in Mechanical Engineering in 1999 from Johns Hopkins University.
